GNS3 Lab & Exercise: GNS3-Labs BSCI Lab OSPF Stub, Total Stub Areas & Route Redistribution

Written on April 9th, 2010 | 4 Comments

Ok – So here is another CCNP BSCI / CCNA lab challenge. This lab is part of Chris Bryant’s CCNP lab manual.

This is my second visit to these labs after completing the reading material and not having to look at a single bit of the guide for help to config this up! Impressive to me, but I do realize these labs are quite simple. Nevertheless; they are labs I had no knowledge on how to config 5 months ago (to this extent) so I’m happy :-)

No lab is too simple in my opinion – any labbing is good labbing! As I understand it knowledge in labs like these are sufficient enough. I enjoy labs that aren’t overly complicated, while allowing you to get comfortable with commands and such. Take advantage now, cause the CCIE level labs are not as nice! With that said, master these labs and you should be able to pass the CCNP BSCI/ROUTE exams, or at least we hope :)

GNS3 From Beginning To End By IPExpert Training – Windows 7

Written on March 31st, 2010 | 0 Comments

IPExpert took the time to put together a pretty good tutorial ranging from explaining what GNS3 is, to loading IPExpert labs and installing GNS3 & PuttyCM on Windows 7. They also go through some definitions to some of the settings that many may not know about.

They do mention that Windows is not the optimal choice OS for GNS3. x64 versions of linux, like Ubuntu are better choices for your GNS3 OS. Through testing and swapping between the two, I couldn’t agree more.

Something they point out right out of the box is what devices are supported.

GNS3 Lab & Exercise: CCNA – CCNP ROUTE – EIGRP Lab

Written on March 18th, 2010 | 33 Comments

So as expected – we’re going to start seeing some folks rolling out labs that are based on the new CCNP track topologies. This new submission comes from Steve – He turned multiple CCNP ROUTE study exercises into a full EIGRP lab exercise as best as he can while covering almost everything possible in regards to EIGRP configuration. Definitely a FULL EIGRP lab giving some great practice to candidates of CCNA, CCNP and even CCIE :)

Thanks Steve..

GNS3 Lab & Exercise: OSPF Hub-And-Spoke & Virtual Links

Written on March 4th, 2010 | 7 Comments

Ok – So here is another CCNP BSCI / CCNA lab challenge. This lab is part of Chris Bryant’s CCNP lab manual. I haven’t included the solutions yet – I’ll give it some time and post that later :) .. First work on completing the lab and getting it to all work per the challenge.

Ok OK .. This lab wasn’t really a challenge, I made it a challenge so excuse the format. There are a bunch of other labs soon to follow that will include a better format.

This lab gives you some great hands on with multi-area OSPF, hub-and-spoke areas and configuration of virtual links. Good for CCNP or CCNA candidate.

I used a 3725 router due to some strange issue anytyime I used a 3640 for R5. Feel free to use a 3640 instead.

GNS3 Announcement: Official Release of GNS3 0.7 Stable

Written on February 28th, 2010 | 15 Comments

Hello All .. The stable release of GNS3 0.7 is now among us and ready. For those who gave the 0.7RC a try must have been very frustrating. There were just some strange issues with it. as if Its not enough just to figure out a lab your working on, then to have to deal with software issues as well – I know I’ve had some bad labbing sessions with 0.7RC. So what I did was just downgrade until 0.7 was final.

But out with the old and in with the new! There are some very nice additions and fixes in the latest version.

The New CCNP Track – What’s It All About?

Written on February 24th, 2010 | 7 Comments

Hello everyone – You’re probably wondering where the heck I’ve been – or Maybe not .. :-)

Well as of late, I’ve been working very hard and focusing on studies for my anticipated May BSCI exam. That’s right, I’m trying to beat the clock! What clock? Hmmm – Oh let me explain.. The new CCNP exams will soon become the mainstream replacing the current CCNP exams and study material.

What am I talking about? For those who aren’t fully aware of the changes – It boils down to this (I’m just sharing information snagged from various sources and put it together my way)

Cisco has developed a new version of the CCNP course and exam.. The new version no longer contains the sub-topics that have been around for some years now – BSCI, BCMSN, ONT or ISCW. The topics in the new CCNP course and exam version are as follows…

GNS3 Announcement: GNS3 0.7RC1 Released!

Written on November 30th, 2009 | 3 Comments

So here it is – the loooong awaited GNS3 release. It is a RC, but if you’ve run GNS3 betas then you’d be interested in running this and giving it a shot. In my opinion the GNS3 development team does a great job with betas to the final release. I havent found enough instabilities in their betas that made me wait around until the final release – of course YMMV :)

Here is the official post from the GNS3 team.. Submitted by admin on Sat, 11/28/2009 – 16:56

This is it, a new release of GNS3!

The main new feature is the integration of the Juniper router emulation using Qemu. Preparing a JunOS image is not as straightforward as an IOS one and you will surely need to read the how to.

Hi everyone!

I’m pleased to introduce the GNS3 technical blog where you will find interresting articles about the development of GNS3 and other related information. The first post is about how to emulate JunOS on your PC using Qemu, a topic I’m working on for the next release of GNS3. At the moment, the integration of JunOS with GNS3 is manual but the next version will provide an easier method.

GNS3-Topology: ACL Test Lab for ACLs and NAT/PAT

Written on October 15th, 2009 | 14 Comments

“Hello World!’ – Hey so it’s been while since posting last and some things are getting back to normal since the move. One of them is my office :) Very happy about that! One thing that has not gotten back to normal is routine studying – I’m so far behind from my goal – but I do have 2 months before the year is out to complete the BSCI – Don’t know if I can do it though. I’m just not in the zone. Well anyway, here is a lab I’ve been meaning to put together to share with you all. It’s a lab involving NAT/PAT and Overload .. Sean shares this with us.

GNS3-Topology: CCIE Mock Lab

Written on August 23rd, 2009 | 7 Comments

Hey – So making my way back to normal life :) I’ve got a new lab to share from Angel (GNS3-Topology: NBMA over FRAME RELAY LAB) again! Great CCIE level lab he contributed. He’s got many features embedded into this lab.

I will be getting other labs up soon enough. I still have the evilrouters series labs to continue and it seems Jeremy has advanced way beyond the last lab I’ve uploaded, but in due time.. No lab is never too late for use :)

If you’d like to share your labs you can do so by following the steps here. Now onto the lab!

Not Forgotten – Just Over GOT :)

Written on August 11th, 2009 | 3 Comments

Hello Everyone!

So it’s been a minute since a good lab and I’d like to apologize for this. I’ve recently moved and have been a bit busy. As I’m starting to settle into the new place I’m impatiently planning some new posts as well as my own jump-start back on the CCNP bandwagon. I still don’t have my office setup so you can imagine how frustrated I am.

Thanks again to all of the contributers and followers of this blog. Looking at the comments it seems this site has become exactly what I intended. A place where people could learn from, interact and contribute their own work and pass the knowledge.

While we have some great contributions, I’d like to ask that you all continue to contribute and share your labs. Doesnt matter how simple, complicated or awkward.. It will prove useful to someone. :)

Thanks again and things will resume back to normal soon enough!

In the meanwhile you can find me on Twitter and the GNS3-Labs Facebook group page.

Written on June 13th, 2009 | 6 Comments

A member of the site name Angel Canario shared a basic lab topology that he put together. It’s not a lab exercise, but like many labs and topologies on the site; they can helpful to someone eventually. Angel has found this site to be very useful and says he’d donate all labs he creates once they’re complete. I say awesome :)

If you’d like to share your labs you can do so by following the steps here. Now onto the lab!
