Video Tutorial: How to run Multi-PC topology using distributed hypervisors in GNS3
Written by LBSources from http://www.gns3-labs.com on November 16th, 2008 | 9 CommentsThe guys over at BrainBump put together a great tutorial on using distributed hypervisors to improve the overall performance and increase the ability to run more routers in your labs.
Onto the video intro..
This tutorial will walk you through the process of settting up a distributed GNS3 topology where you can use different external hypervisor engines and run GNS3 topology in much easier and smoother fashion. This helps you utilize resources at hand in an efficient manner by distributing processor load across multiple hardware platforms. Most people use WindowsXP / Windows Vista on their laptop machines. However, for GNS3 and dynagen to perform at their peak, i would recommmend you to use a flavour of Linux which speeds up things to greater extent.

To Buddie’s request, I have an answer, one that you may or may not like. GNS3 is a great EMULATOR, however, it will do some limited switching functionality with the NM-16SW module on curtain routers (I have used the 7200s with limited success) but since the layer 3 switches use ASICs, there is not really a way to emulate hardware with any level of success. I suggest if you are seriously looking for some training to go on ebay. You can pick up a 3550 (older, but basically the same as the 3560) for around $150 bucks.
