@ masaud and prabhat..
I had the same problem with pinging the loopback address from the console. The reason for me was windows firewall was blocking the pings across. Try disabling the firewall. It should work

@khan, you need to have username/password setup on your cisco router in gns3 and have http enabled also make sure your lan range is in different subnet to your microsoft loopback adaptor and have your router ip address according to loopback gateway.
March 22nd, 2010 at 11:23 pm
Also if you cannot click on some features in SDM then you need to downgrade your java to older version as there are compatibility issues with new SDM and java.

I used the video to set it up and it worked great after the initial setup. After a while it stopped working. I am not able to ping the adapter while in the router/GNS3. Ive tried a router with a clean config only with the interface ip setup to eliminate the router config. I am able to ping the adapter in windows. Initially I was able to use secureCRT launched from my PC and connect using “localhost” port 2001 but the connection is now being refused by the remote host. Ive tried reinstalling everything from scratch. I did add the line using notepad into the labs save file. It seems to be a disconnect between GNS3/WinpCap and windows/NIC.
Any ideas or suggestions will be helpfull thanks

I am trying to get this to work with the new Cisco Configuration Professional (CCP) software. I have followed the instructions in the video and have succeeded in getting the loopback module to work. I have configured a router in GNS3 and I can ping that router from my desktop’s command prompt so I know the loopback is working properly. However when I try to connect to the router from CCP and go through the “discovery” process it says it can’t find the router. Anyone else have any experience getting CCP to work with GSN3? Any assistance would be much appreciated.

Hi,
I`m having problem in launching the SDM.. when i try to open SDM using IP address 192.168.1.1 ….i see a message coming at the bottom of the window saying” waiting for 192.168.1.1…..”. Moreover, i can only see the (SEND)packets going from PC to router and the loopback adaptor does not receive, it has “0″ packets all the time… i think that is the problem ..please help me how to overcome this problem

1. just install microsot loopback adapter in your system and set ip add (1.0.0.10/8)and gateway (1.0.0.1)
2. open gns 7.4 and take 7200 series router
3. take one cloud
4. open cloud and select microsoft loopback adapter address–> ok
5. connect router and cloud using fas ethernet port

Thank you for the video tutorial. The only extra command I had to use to get this working that was not in the video was:
“ip http authentication local”
Otherwise you won’t be able to authenticate with the local account.
Other than that it worked great. I’m using version 2.4 of the SDM and a 7206 router running Cisco IOS Software, 7200 Software (C7200-ADVENTERPRISEK9_SNA-M), Version 15.0(1)M3.
Thanks again and good luck to everyone.

Hi,
I had a problem with connecting my SDM to GNS3. I could ping my PC from router and reverse, but IE goes sleep, or after entering password. it did not connect to the router. I solved it in this way:
1- I changed ip address “range” from my current network and turned off firewall.
2- On GNS3 right click on my cloud and add my loopback as a virtual interface(I had added that by notepad before- according to the video instructions).
Anyway, thank you so much for the video and the website. without this I could never imagine that I can take my CCNA security!
